In this four-part series, we’re breaking down four sneaky behaviors you’re doing to gain visibility in your organization…
And exposing what top leadership really sees.
We’re affectionately calling this four-part series the “Excuse me, miss, I’m sorry but you have toilet paper on your shoe” series.
Receiving the wisdom we’re about to share over the next few days can feel like walking into an event, thinking you look stunning, and feeling everyone looking at you.
But it was because you had toilet paper dragging on your heel for the last 20 minutes.
In each part of this series, we’re breaking down one of the four critical productivity mistakes you are making that are:
- Getting you noticed for the wrong reasons
- Killing your productivity
- Losing the respect of top leadership
- Costing you the promotion or seat at the table
In today’s spot: Complaining about how busy you are.
What you think:
‘Busy’ is a badge of honor. That makes me essential to the organization and communicates how I prefer to get promoted or rewarded.
What other executives see (Including me when I see it):
A victim of the circumstances who doesn’t seem to know how to manage themselves or their people or ask for help.
What to do instead:
You may be super busy. Stop talking about it. Make people wonder how you do what you do. Get so good at getting sh*t done that people are asking you how you do it.
See you tomorrow.
With love,
Mari Carmen
