I was feeling stuck today.
I knew I had much to do but couldn’t get clarity.
Most of what I was doing had a little ‘half-assed’ energy to it.
Given that we’re in full productivity mode here at WLS, I put our tools to the test.
One of the most important things we teach about productivity is that it is a mindset.
But productivity is also about…

believing in yourself,
-
following your intuition,
-
having clear goals,
-
spending time with loved ones,
-
and moving your body.
I realized my ‘half-assedness’ was actually ‘half-heartedness’.
I was trying to produce from this hyper mental state of getting more done, but I wasn’t connected to the deeper meaning of what I was doing and why I was doing it.
I stopped.
Took a few deep breaths. Practiced my self-hypnosis mantra, “I am safe. I am calm. I choose to be here.”
I felt my system relax.
What is next? I asked myself. I paused, I waited.
This differs from looking at a to-do list to tell me what is next.
Looking within while in a relaxed state of mind is what we mean when we say productivity is a mindset.
I took another breath.
Repeated my mantra. “I am safe. I am calm. I choose to be here.”
I waited.
Go for a walk. Was the instruction I received.
I had to fight my mind a little, which was set on crossing items on my ‘to-do list’.
But I listened to my heart. I took the walk. It was chilly. I bundled up, and the brisk air shifted my state. I felt more energized and gradually dropped down from my mind and back into my body and my heart. I felt connected to myself again, connected to my life, and reinspired.
When I returned home, only 30 minutes later, I felt clear on the one thing I wanted to prioritize for the rest of the day.
I sat back down at my desk and got to work.
By the end of the day, I knew I had worked on the right thing. I felt fulfilled. My work was contributing to a sense of progress.
Most importantly, I felt at ease. I had enjoyed my work day. The walk connected me to my body, heart, vision, and myself.
Productivity that churns out work but compromises other aspects of your life is not the Productivity we teach. It’s not practical, and more importantly, it’s not sustainable.
