The problem might be you.
I’ve been thinking a lot about you and your corporate journey.
I know how passionate and dedicated you are, and I see the incredible ideas you bring to the table.
And I also know how frustrating it can be when those ideas aren’t heard or implemented, especially when you know they could make a real difference.
Here’s the thing: the key to getting your ideas across isn’t just about having great ideas.
You MUST understand the landscape you’re operating in.
Your boss and top management have their own priorities, pressures, and perspectives.
To get your ideas heard, you must choose to tailor them to align with what your boss values and needs now to solve whatever is preoccupying their mind.
Next time you feel frustrated that your idea isn’t gaining traction, take a step back:
1) Inquire and Investigate: Gather as much intel as possible about what your boss is focused on right now.
• What are their goals?
• What challenges are they facing right now?
2) Align Your Ideas: Frame your ideas in a way that speaks directly to their priorities.
3) Evaluate and Pivot: If you can’t align your ideas or the intel is not congruent with what you value, it may be time to pivot your approach or consider changing jobs.
I understand the frustration.
It’s natural to feel disheartened when it seems like your ideas aren’t valued.
I also know that you know that assuming, jumping to conclusions, or creating stories about your boss won’t help. Those assumptions are often far from the truth and can create unnecessary barriers.
You have so much to offer, and I believe in your ability to navigate these challenges with grace and intelligence.
Keep pushing forward, stay curious, and never lose sight of your potential to make a difference.
