Have you ever felt you should be further along in your career?
Do you feel like your career has hit a plateau, meaning you are ready to move up but you keep being passed over?
In this week’s video, I am going to share with you one of the biggest mistakes women make that hinders their career growth.
So, you feel stuck but at the same time, you know you are ready to move up in the organization. And you feel you are being passed over.
I got you!
Research conducted by the Center for Creative Leadership found that there are 5 Strategies that high achieving women, who are killing it at work, apply consistently. And to be honest, when I read about these strategies, I realized that I also needed to pay attention and continue to develop each one of them.
These 5 strategies are a MUST to create your UNIQUE LEADERSHIP BRAND
- The first strategy of high achieving women is to act authentically. What’s that? It’s Knowing who you are as a leader and acting on your own values. In other words, you must be clear on your purpose and believe in it.
- The second strategy is to act powerfully. Meaning you set your goals and adapt them as needed, stay open to the possibilities. Be flexible. How flexible are you?
- The third strategy of high achieving women is to make connections. That is to create allies (in and out of your workplace) and to develop mentoring relationships. Both as a mentor and as a mentee… How many other leaders are you mentoring right now? Regardless of your level.
- The fourth strategy of high achieving women is to develop yourself as a whole human. What is a “whole human”? I mean establish clear priorities, take time for reflection and spirituality, and harness learning across different life roles and career roles.
- And the final strategy, the one that cuts across all cultures, workplaces, and personality types that this group of researchers found is that high achieving women who were not experiencing any type of frustration and were happy at work understood organizational systems.
That means that aside from understanding who you are, what you need and how to get it; you also have to understand the organization as a whole. How? By seeking feedback about your own leadership and by paying attention to the fit issues. FIT. How do you FIT with your organization’s culture? And with the jobs and the careers that you are in.
So there you have it. Before you waste your time being frustrated or feeling stuck, take time to evaluate how you are performing against each of these strategies.
I promise it will give you the clarity to know what your next steps really are.
