5 Strategies To Elevate Your Presence At Work
Authenticity
One of the most fundamental strategies for high achievement in the workplace is authenticity. This means knowing who you are as a leader and acting on your own values. If you are looking to elevate yourself in the eyes of your colleagues, start by getting super clear on your purpose and believing in it. You will be surprised by the way others start to respond to you when you lead from a place of powerful authenticity.
Power
The second strategy is to act powerfully. High achieving women who have clarity on their purpose tend to show up to a room ready to listen, make decisions, and lead. Powerful actions include setting your goals, adapting them as needed, staying open to possibilities, and being flexible. How flexible are you?
Connection
High achievers understand the magic of a network, and know how to prioritize relationships. They take the time to make connections that create allies (in and out of your workplace) and to develop mentoring relationships, both as a mentor and as a mentee. Regardless of your level, ask yourself: how many other leaders are you mentoring right now?
Wholeness
High achievers are attentive to themselves as a whole person, and look to develop themselves intellectually, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. If you want to reach your next level of success, develop yourself as a whole human. Establish clear priorities, take time for reflection and spirituality, and harness learning across different life roles and career roles.
Organizationally “Fit”
The final strategy — the one that cuts across all cultures, workplaces, and personality types –is understanding organizational systems. This group of researchers found that high achieving women who understood organizational systems were significantly less inclined toward frustration and were happy at work. That means that aside from understanding who you are, what you need, and how to get it, you also have to understand the organization as a whole. How? By seeking feedback about your own leadership and paying attention to the “fit” issues. How do you FIT with your organization’s culture?
So there you have it. Stop wasting your time being frustrated or feeling stuck. Instead, take time to evaluate how you are performing against each of these strategies. I promise it will give you the clarity you need to know what your next steps really are.
