Money makes the world go around. Many of us try to ignore this fact and some even pretend that wanting more is a bad thing. It really isn’t. In this article we will explore what is truly the biggest secret to achieving wealth.
Every so often I hear someone say, “Mari, I’ll be happy when I’m making more money!” I call that the “I’ll be happy when…” syndrome. Some of us genuinely believe that more money will bring us happiness and, while we know that’s wrong, working to earn more money is not a bad thing at all. The key is to identify what it is that we are really after: wealth or money?
Happiness is not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort.
~Franklin D. Roosevelt
There is a big difference between getting rich and being wealthy.
The National Endowment for Financial Education once performed a study and found that 70 percent of all major lottery winners end up bankrupt. Buying $100 worth of lottery tickets is not a good investment. It may allow for a moment of euphoria to dream about what it would be like to be rich, but it is a very poor use of money. People who are unable to make a good decision with $100 are not going to suddenly be hardwired to make good choices with $100,000 million. It just doesn’t happen.
America recently saw the Mega Millions lottery reach nearly $1.6 billion. The odds of winning that lottery were 1 in 258,890,850. The odds of being struck by lightning TWICE in your life are 1 in 9 million.
Many lottery winners expected their life to be perfect when the big check came in. They thought money would equal happiness, and they were wrong. They were the same people who were not good at handling money who suddenly had a lot of it to handle. A comparison of what this looks like is if you knew somebody who owned an apartment in the city and suddenly gave them a farm. Someone who has only ever known city life isn’t necessarily going to be able to adapt to life on a farm without serious learning about how to care for property, equipment and animals.
So, when considering the biggest secret to achieving wealth, the question becomes: “What are we really after?”
I usually fill my blogs with anywhere from three to five bullet points for you to consider when I talk about a topic. Today, I’m only going to give you one. The absolute biggest secret to achieving wealth, and the one way to open a door that will lead to more happiness is to:
Surround yourself with the right people.
Wealth is the ability to fully experience life.
~Henry David Thoreau
It seems silly to point this out, but you’re not the first person to decide to become wealthy.
Maybe you know other people who have tried and succeeded. If you do, spend more time with them. If you don’t, find them. We all need mentors in life who we can emulate and who we can also ask the right questions. The answers we will receive will give us the path forward to achieving that which we seek to achieve.
Depending upon your job, there may be networking opportunities within your industry or in your geographic area that will help connect you with people who have either done it before you or others on the same path. Having the right energy around you is just as important as having the correct information to achieve your rapid wealth momentum — energy breeds like energy.
Conversely, take a look at who you are spending your time with, both professionally and personally. Negative people will bring you down and have you focusing on what’s wrong rather than on what’s right. Time spent dwelling in negativity is not momentum.
Does your group of friends like to sit around and lament why their dreams didn’t magically manifest themselves?
It’s time to decline invitations to those “poor us” parties. Empathize and recognize they probably don’t want solutions. Misery loves company. The next time somebody wants to bring you down with their negative energy, excuse yourself. You are in control of your destiny.
So, if you want to be wealthy–start hanging out with wealthy people and learn from them. If you need some help moving toward your desired destiny, let me know. I’m happy to help. http://maricarmenpizarro.com/contact-mari-carmen/
