If you find yourself fading throughout your workday, then know that there is one secret to increasing productivity and energy that will not disrupt your busy schedule. In fact, it will definitely enhance your creativity and productiveness and make you feel better.
The secret is common sense but not common practice:
MOVE MORE.
That’s it. It’s as simple as standing up out of your chair and moving more.
Look at your smartphone. Did you ever realize that this tool that you carry with you everywhere you go can help you move more? It can act as your personal assistant/fitness trainer to remind you to move.
A group of researchers found that the alerts which tell you to get up and move resulted in 3% more movement per day. If you have an office job, you are sitting an average of 9 to 10 hours a day. And I know some of you sit a lot more if you add watching TV, long commutes, etc. So while 3% might not seem like much, if you stand up and move (for at least one minute), it amounts to 18 minutes per day!
One of my favorite Phone Apps is Stand Up! The Work Break Timer. Stand Up! is a fun, flexible work break timer. It alerts you every so often (45 minutes by default) to simply stand up.
Sitting down is slowly killing us; so, why not apply this simple solution to stand up for one minute with the help of technology? 18 minutes per day is a great start to break our sedentary habits. Not only will your body thank you, but so will your brain.
Rise up off those chairs and couches and start moving!
