When I first began collaborating with Theresa, she had recently assumed the responsibility of leading a team of over 200 people nationwide.
Theresa embodied brilliance, diligence, and compassion as a leader who was genuinely committed to making a positive impact. Balancing her professional endeavors, she also had a family with two young children under the age of six.
Her recent promotion brought about weeks of extensive travel, long work hours, incessant demands, and unforeseen challenges. The first time we met, Theresa appeared exhausted – her eyes reflecting fatigue from an international trip, barely recovering from jetlag before being inundated with urgent personal and professional matters.
However, her weariness wasn’t merely a result of her recent efforts; it was an anticipation of the relentless demands she foresaw. Theresa, like many of my clients, had been conditioned to sacrifice everything to achieve success, and while she had indeed climbed the ladder, the toll was beginning to show.
This juncture often leaves my clients feeling deceived, perplexed, or disillusioned.
The pursuit of reaching the next level is what propels them forward, yet as they ascend, the allure of money and perks fades, replaced by a growing sense of exhaustion.
This marks a pivotal moment that I have experienced first hand.
At a certain threshold, the cost of more success and reaching the next level starts to outweigh the benefits. The desire for more, however, persists. It is at this point that you must transition into a different kind of leadership – one that prioritizes efficiency over quantity.
As we collaborated, I guided Theresa in reshaping her perspective on leadership and redefining what it means to be an impactful leader with a lasting legacy. She began to shift her approach to family, allowing herself to receive support rather than carrying the entire burden.
Theresa insisted on taking recovery time upon returning from travel and made a conscious effort to prioritize her family without compromising her professional responsibilities. This shift allowed her to shed feelings of guilt and worry, empowering her to trust her intuition, delegate more freely, address conflicts with confidence, and experience a revitalized sense of energy and purpose.
For you, the next level of leadership isn’t solely about work;
- It necessitates welcoming more life in.
- It demands increased self-awareness.
- A strategic focus on your values.
- And a shift from managing your time to managing your attention and energy.
It’s about recognizing that at the next level, success is not just about nailing targets but also about the kind of journey you have.
