Research has shown that we can boost brain power with three simple steps, which is excellent news!
I used to think one had to spend hours to learn new skills, such as a new language, to be able to keep the brain young and boost its power. However, recent research has shown it’s much easier.
Here are three simple strategies that will help you maximize your intellect quickly. Your brain will thank you!
Meditate – According to ECO Institute, a new study by EquiSync® saw an increase in brainpower and creativity when participants meditated for 20 minutes per day. Even if other thoughts popped into their heads during that time, the results compared to those who didn’t meditate were better. They’re findings also concluded that meditating for even 5 minutes per day would yield noticeable results. The next time you have an awkward meeting to facilitate or a full calendar, take a few minutes to meditate and see if creativity and focus increase for you.
Wander Into The Past – Got a problem? Maybe you have to deal with a difficult employee or a complex client problem, and you don’t seem to be able to find the right answer. Allow your brain to wander. Go back to a time when you tackled a similar situation successfully. You may see that when you engage the mind in activities associated with old memories, you might do better managing related tasks in the present.
Daydream – Have you ever caught a coworker staring out a window and thought, “He is sometimes so distracted and unproductive!” Well, daydreamers have better working memory and retain details way better than non-daydreamers. Ouch! According to studies done at the University of Wisconsin Madison, daydreaming is a great way to come up with new ideas. Instead of checking the news or surfing the internet, take a mini mental break every day and allow yourself to daydream. Gaze into the beautiful morning sky or stare at a rainy afternoon. You can also journal whatever comes to mind while you dream.
Test at least one of these strategies this week each time you feel “stuck.” Or better yet, test them all; meditate, wander and daydream and you’ll feel more relaxed, confident, and motivated as a result.
